The Manor is bidding for a substantial sum from the Football Foundation to redevelop the outdoor site (the derelict tennis courts). We should have an update by the first week of December, 2008. St Marks School now carries out all its PE at The Manor on a Wednesday, and Lee Hardy, the schools sports co-ordinator for local primary schools, holds after-school clubs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. There is a new session for under-11s football on Friday evening (6-7pm) run on site by Brighton and Hove Albion coaches. This ties in with the stated aim of The Manor to provide coaching and facilities for the 5-11 age group. Marlene Oliver and Tanya Burbidge, The Manor's hard-working voluntary administrators/cleaners/caretakers, jointly won the 2008 Brighton and Hove sports volunteer of the year award, and go forward to the Sussex County awards. Two new directors have joined the board: Les Vickers, a local volunteer parent, and Tim Herbert, who runs the Brighton and Hove state primary schools football competition and teaches sport at Brighton College. We are always looking for more volunteers, for on-site activities, a treasurer, promotional work, coaching, administrating, cleaning and a host of other jobs. There are many opportunities to go on training courses for first aid, sports leadership, coaching, health and safety, and so on. If you are interested, contact 01273 676828 and please, if nobody answers, leave a message.
